An open evening event promoting courses and apprenticeship opportunities available at Forth Valley College attracted more than 100 people to the Stirling Campus recently (Tuesday 29 October).

Representatives from the college’s teaching departments and Business Development Team were on hand to offer advice and guidance on the wide range of courses available at the College including full-time courses from access to Degree level, Modern Apprenticeships, new Foundation Apprenticeships, evening courses, business training courses and flexible learning programmes.

In addition, support teams were available to offer careers advice and answer questions on funding, learning support and applying to college.

Forth Valley College launched their new Prospectus recently and are encouraging people to apply online now for full-time courses available from January and August 2020.

Thomas Henderson (17) a pupil at St Mungo’s High School in Falkirk attended the event. He said: “I was interested in finding out about modern apprenticeships in engineering and it has been helpful to come to this event. The Ineos apprenticeship programme looks like a really good scheme. I am excited with what I have seen.”

Seanthomas O’Donnell (19) from Stirling, said: “I am currently studying at the Stirling Campus for an NC in Applied Science and I heard about the Open evening from there. I am glad I came as I too am interested in the modern apprentices, especially the PetroIneos ones. It has been worthwhile coming along.”

Taylor Fawcett (17) a pupil at Alva Academy, said: “At the moment I am oblivious about what I want to do, so I thought I would come along here tonight and get some advice on college courses, especially childcare ones that could lead on to primary school teaching. I am impressed with the event and I have received some good information.”

Connor Noblett (16) also a pupil at Alva Academy, said: “I am here to offer moral support to my sister Sara who is interested in courses here. But I have been impressed with the event and the information on offer.”

Dr Ken Thomson, Principal for Forth Valley College said: “Our open evenings offer a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and find out about the different options available to them – whether they’re interested in a mainstream course, finding out about Modern Apprenticeship vacancies currently on offer, thinking about studying for a Foundation Apprenticeship while still at school or pursuing a degree.

“These events are also really useful if you’re considering applying to college but have questions surrounding student finance or the application process for example – and they’re also an excellent opportunity to find out what qualifications employers are looking for.”

Photographs of the event were taken by BA Digital Media student Innes McVey.
