New software to enhance the teaching of Oil and Gas Virtual Control Room skills and techniques were demonstrated at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus recently (Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 January)
The TSC (Technical Simulation Consultants) software is very useful to train students in the Engineering and Science Department for working in the industry and a demonstration using headsets and showing the three screen technology allowed students to be trained in both Control Room and Outside Plant duties.
Lecturer Jim Toye, said: “Currently the students only see things from the perspective of the Control Room, whereas utilising the new software allows students to gain experience of outside operations and greatly enhances their understanding as it gives them a complete picture of the whole operation.
“Allowing the students to carry out both Control Room and Outside Operations gives them an all-round perspective of working on a Refinery or Petrochemical or Chemical Plant. Offshore students who attended were greatly impressed and convinced that it would be a very worthwhile addition to their training.
“It was well received by all who attended and seems to be a very worthwhile tool which would make our students very employable in the Oil and Gas and Petrochemical/Chemical Industries.”
