Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty and Forth Valley College were finalists for an industry award at a special ceremony held in Glasgow recently.
The partnership was nominated in the highly competitive Social Value category at the Go Awards Scotland 2019/20, which was held at the city’s Marriott Hotel on the evening of Tuesday 29 October.
Despite missing out on the top prize, both teams were thrilled to be short-listed for the prestigious GO Awards Scotland 2019/20 - Scotland’s leading public procurement excellence awards which give organisations an opportunity to share success stories.
Since 2003, the GO Awards have recognised the achievement and successes of procurement teams from all aspects of the public, private and third sectors and celebrate achievement in leadership, innovation, social value and more.
Claire Shiels, Forth Valley College’s Operations Director for the new Falkirk Campus, said: “Just to be nominated for this award is great news for the partnership between Forth Valley College and Balfour Beatty who have done a fantastic job building our new Falkirk Campus. Making Learning Work is the key ethos we work towards across the Forth Valley area and Balfour Beatty have embraced this fully as their involvement in the local community has been very impressive. They have facilitated work placements for local students, hired local contractors, carried out outreach work at local events and schools and benefited from a local community led café on site. As we come to the completion of the new campus – we move in at the start of 2020 – this recognition in a very competitive award category, is a fitting tribute to all the hard work they have done to get us to this stage.”
Stewart MacPhail, Balfour Beatty Project Director in Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for delivering social value and community benefits at our Forth Valley College project.
“Through offering apprenticeships, graduate roles and work experience to local school students and jobseekers, we truly embraced our customer’s ethos of ‘making learning work’, whilst encouraging young people to consider a career in construction.”
