Forth Valley College and Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) welcomed the first cohort of APTUS Modern Apprentices recently.
APTUS is the new name for the OGTAP Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme – which is now in its 25th year. It has been rebranded with a new name and identity - APTUS, meaning to adapt, to adjust and to be prepared. This reflects the evolution of both the programme and the entire industry as the energy transition gathers pace.
During their induction day at FVC’s Falkirk Campus on Monday 9 September, representatives from the MAs’ employers Wood, Petrofac, PBS by Ponticelli and SEMCO also met with the first-year apprentices as part of their first day.
MAs Mayara Morrison, Logan McKenzie, Glen Noble, Alex Henry, Mason Ferguson, Lewis Grant, Andrew Fidom, Rory Butler, Felix Cronshaw, Mitchell Bell, Nicholas Ralston, and Euan Murray, are all pictured here with FVC staff, their employers and representatives of ECITB. Forth Valley College is one of the main providers of the APTUS, which is managed by the ECITB and OPITO, the skills organisation for oil and gas. The programme gives apprentices the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification combined with practical work experience. As well as delivering the APTUS, the college is also one of 11 centres throughout the UK that deliver the ECITB Scholarship Programme.
Caroline Hogg, FVC’s Head of Apprenticeships, said “It’s great to welcome the new cohort of APTUS Modern Apprentices (MAs) onto the exciting oil and gas technical apprentice Programme.
“This programme is another example of the excellent relationship we have with the ECITB and we are confident that it will enhance the MAs’ opportunities to progress onto employment in the engineering industry.”
