NC Photography students at Forth Valley College have been snapping up as many creative opportunities as possible in recent months – including two exhibitions of their work.

They recently displayed their impressive range of photographs (see photos in FVC news webpage carousel) in the Stirling Campus Creative Industries corridor, but have also shown their pictures at the University of Stirling’s Pathfoot Building for an exhibition entitled ‘The Valley’ back in February.

They are also hoping that their work will be shown in various places during the Stirling Photography Festival in August this year. The festival will feature exhibitions of work from across Scotland – including the NC Photography photos - at the Barracks in Stirling, and other city venues as part of ‘Stirling 900’ celebrations.

Student Courteny Harper (29) from Bo’ness, said: “I joined the class a bit later than my classmates at the start of the academic year, but everyone has helped me to settle in. There is a wide range of ages from 16-50 and we have all been mucking in together to build confidence in each other and encouraging us all to exhibit our work, and that will make us all better photographers.

“I must admit I was a bit daunted with the theory aspect of the course, but I have got through it and am coming back for the HND… and hopefully even more exhibitions of my work!”

Classmate Ellis Mills (22) from Camelon in Falkirk, said: “Honestly I have loved the course and it has helped me actually become a professional photographer as I am now picking up paid for work while learning more and more skills. In the class we are all so different in way of styles, but we all have a love of photography. If anyone out there wants to be a photographer, I would 100% recommend coming to Forth Valley College to learn how.”

Lecturer Lesley McDermott, said: “Working so well together and with others beyond the College, the students have been developing their meta skills well, and have shown real talent and potential to go far.”
