Time4Me, Forth Valley College’s innovative mentoring programme, has been recognised nationally by the Scottish Mentoring Network.

An extensive application – which took a full year to produce – was submitted recently and the good news confirming positive assessment was received on Thursday 23 September.

Maureen Watson, Chief Executive Officer for the Scottish Mentoring Network, said in her letter: “I am delighted to advise that, Forth Valley College’s -Time 4 Me Mentoring Programme has now been assessed and I can confirm it has been accepted to receive the Scottish Mentoring Network Project Quality Award with immediate effect.

“We were impressed by your application and all of the information it contained. Achieving the Quality Award demonstrates the high standards at which your project is currently operating. Congratulations are due to all involved in your project and our grateful thanks go to you for taking the time to submit your application.”

Sarah Tervit, FVC’s Mentor Coordinator, said: “I am absolutely delighted Time4Me has achieved the SMN Quality Award.  From the outset, the intent was to create a robust, high quality mentoring programme, to enable maximum impact for all its participants.

“As such, Time4Me was developed and implemented in line with the Scottish Mentoring Network Good Practice Guidelines from the very beginning; guidelines upon which this quality mark is founded. Time4Me prides itself on matching purpose with performance, providing committed, highly-skilled Mentors and placing the needs of the young people at the core of everything we do, and I have no doubt the high quality of mentoring Time4Me provides, is the reason for its successes.

“All those involved in Time4Me over the past four years deserve the credit and recognition this achievement brings with it, and my thanks go to all of them. Thanks also to the SMN team for their expert support and guidance, not only through this application process, but throughout the whole lifecycle of Time4Me.”

Time4Me supports students aged between15-26 year olds who may be care experienced, young carers or reside in regeneration areas. Training existing staff members to become volunteer mentors, reflects the College’s commitment to supporting young people who face challenging circumstances, helping them make a successful and sustained transition into college life.

Mentors help the mentees with goal setting, problem solving and communication skills and the young people taking part will gain confidence and develop skills which will help them with their studies, career and life goals.
