Four Forth Valley College Art and Design students have received recognition from top arts bodies, who sent delegations to view the College’s annual End of Year Show at the Stirling Campus.

On Wednesday 8 June representatives from Visual Arts Scotland visit (VAS) and the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) Committee, visited the student exhibition – which has once again been scaled down due to Covid.

VAS shortlisted three BA Art and Design third year students to show their work at a Graduate Showcase Award which judges college student’s work alongside fourth year Honours students from the four Scottish Art Schools. FVC Lecturer Ewan John has worked hard to lobby VAS to include colleges in their judging schedule and they have been doing this for a few years now. The students will be awarded a free year’s associate membership and will find out if they will be finalists in August.

The SSA selected one BA Art and Design third year student, Holly MacDonald, for their SSA New Graduate Award 2022. She will now be invited to exhibit at their annual exhibition.

The four students are as follows:

Rona Fraser – Progressed to year three from HND Photography at FVC

Molly Mack - Progressed to year three from HND Contemporary Art Practice at FVC

Kirstie McKeen - Progressed to year three from HND Art & Design from New College Lanarkshire via our articulation agreement

Holly MacDonald - Progressed to year three from HND Art & Design at FVC

Linda Paterson, Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Department of Creative Industries, Hospitality and Tourism, said: “We have never had this number of shortlisted students before so are delighted. I think that the variety of programmes they all progressed from – some of them started at the NC Portfolio level course - is testament to the success of the interdisciplinary nature of the degree and is quite unique to us here at FVC. Three of them now have offers on the BA Honours Art & Design at the University of Stirling.

“We were sad once again to only invite family and friends of students to come along to view the work on display at the End of Year Show, but the quality of work on display has been very high once again. Fingers crossed we will be back to a full show next year and we will be able to invite the public in to see the work our talented students produce year in and year out. We are very proud of them all.”
