Forth Valley College Hospitality Lecturer Michal Tomaszewski explored the benefits of social media in his industry recently when he began a scholarship with the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland.
It was run by social and digital media consultants Lesley Wood and Stephen Whitelaw and the training was over two days.
Michal (far right in photograph far right in the photograph with his fellow scholarship classmates) who is based at the college’s Gallery Restaurant at the Stirling Campus, applied online through HIT and became one of no more than 250 scholarships awarded this year by the organisation.
He said:
“It was an incredible experience to learn current information on digital media. It will definitely benefit my students and will allow them to receive the most up to date information on social media. During the training I learnt how to use different social media platforms in order to benefit the business such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, You Tube, Google, Google + and Search Engine Optimisation. It was very hard to remember all of the content, fortunately I have 20 pages of notes to look over.
“Additionally I learnt how to create an effective blog, photography for use on social media, a content marketing calendar and content guidelines.”
