Mhairi Hay Forth, Valley College’s Operations Manager in Engineering and Science, has recently been taking on some mighty machines outwith the college’s labs and workshops.
Well established professional rugby referee Mhairi – who has officiated at International women’s matches – has also added keeping the men’s side of the sport in check over the last few weeks.
She has recently run the line in a tense Borders derby between Melrose and Hawick and last Saturday (1 December) she was at Stirling County v Ayr. This picture shows her keeping a close eye on the Scottish Cup game on Saturday 24 November between Heriots and Edinburgh Accies at Goldenacre (Heriots’ home ground).
Mhairi, said: “The score was 29-20 to Heriots, though Accies had led until the 75th minute, which was unexpected due to current league positions. Heriots fought back and scored two late tries to win. So it was a great game to be involved in.
“I really enjoy the officiating, but next up for me is retirement and most likely mentoring and coaching the next generation of officials. I will also be working on my tennis serve having taken the game up in the last year.”
