Masterchef magic surrounded a dozen Forth Valley College Hospitality students at a Glasgow restaurant recently.

Gary Maclean – who won Masterchef Professionals 2016 – served up an exciting menu at the A’Challtainn Fish Restaurant & Bar at Barras Art and Design (BAad) on the evening of Thursday 20 April, with the help of the next generation of FVC trainee chefs and front of house staff.

The restaurant presented an evening with Gary which showcased how the Masterchef champion used his skills and techniques to claim the much sought after prize.

Diners were treated to a four-course menu created by Gary accompanied by drinks. Added to this, each dish was demonstrated by the chef and shown live on the big screen in the BAad’s courtyard. After dinner Gary took questions from guests.

Diane Creed, Head of FVC’s Department of Hospitality and Salon Services, said: “One student especially Michael Morton - who came through Access and Progression as an ACE student before successfully applying to the college’s Department of Hospitality and Salon Services to study Professional Cookery – will never forget the experience as he spent the evening on stage working alongside the City of Glasgow College Chef Lecturer.

“Our students – led by Chef Lecturer Martin Luti - worked in the kitchen and front of house and the event wouldn’t have been possible without them. They had an amazing experience. The event was filmed for TV and a DVD will also be available. We are all so proud of them all and it is great to be reminded of just how we “Make Learning Work” in spectacular style!”
