Modern Apprentice Joiners at Forth Valley College are ready to improve their skillset by embarking on the new Advanced Craft section of their course.

The apprentices (pictured here) will complete their third year attending the FVC Stirling Campus workshops and benefit from a more challenging course curriculum.

FVC Apprenticeship Officer Irene Kane said “All these apprentices were either funded by their employer or self-funded to continue this additional qualification on the Modern Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery Programme. This is an optional third year of studying in the FVC workshops during a four year apprenticeship, which advances their joinery skills.

“During the year, with the expertise and guidance of their lecturers Ronnie Millar and Stuart Harkins they will complete units including Complex Roofs, Specialist Doors, High Class Finishes and Complex Stairs. This is a stepping stone qualification to being a Site Manager, an entry qualification for HNC Construction Management and apprentices can apply for their Gold CSCS card on achieving this qualification.”

Construction Lecturer Ronnie Millar, said: “It’s great to see so many advanced craft students enrolling for the course, it gives me a lot of satisfaction to know that I will help guide them to complete the course successfully.”

Lecturing colleague Stuart Harkins, added: “The commitment and dedication of the Apprentices will hopefully pay off and they will all work hard to succeed and gain their additional qualification.”
