Litter pick event doubles up to highlight two good causes
FVSA Litter Pick

Litter picks raised awareness of two important initiatives supported by Forth Valley College recently.

Thursday 11 November saw the official launch of FVC’s backing for Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Treasure our River Campaign along the River Forth near the Stirling Campus and also an event to promote the Forth Valley Student Association and the College’s partnership Hedgehog Friendly Campus campaign.

Elena Semple, Lynne Tomlinson, Chris Green and Angela Muirhouse from the FVSA, Psychology student Sammy Berninger and Politics student Mila Cadene from the University of Stirling’s Hedgehog Friendly Campaign – who joined the litter pick for moral support – collected a total of eight bin bags full of rubbish in just two hours

Elena, FVSA Student Engagement Officer, said: “The College graciously let us borrow some of their equipment and bin bags for the collection and we headed out in slots of 30 – 45 minutes, in both directions along the paths. We had students pop along for a bit, to help out, but the FVSA staff stayed throughout the event to collect as much as possible. We had also invited university student organisers from the University of Stirling Hedgehog Friendly Campus Campaign and they helped us out too which was really appreciated. It was great to raise awareness of our Hedgehog campaign with this type of event.”

Pauline Donaldson, FVC’s Soft Services and Sustainability Manager, said: “I would like to thank the Student Association team who organised this litter pick event, which I have heard was very successful. This marked the official launch of the College supporting the Treasure our River campaign in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, who have provided two A4 boards, which contain litter picks and waste sacks to encourage the public to carry out a litter pick whilst walking along the path.”

The FVSA would love to have more people join the Campaign at Forth Valley College to help create the safe environments for hedgehogs. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Elena Semple at Elena.Semple@forthvalley.ac.uk for more information.
