Literacy confidence and inspiration through free course

Literacy confidence and inspiration through free course
Books

A new free course could provide confidence and inspiration for people across Forth Valley to explore further education in a more in-depth way.

Back to the Books and Looking to the Future – funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) – is a course which will run from April until November 2022, through a creative book group and workshop in all three FVC campuses.

Lisa McLaren, FVC’s Learning Services Manager, said: “This course aims to enhance the skills and experience of our students, develop confidence and communication skills and improve levels of literacy. This will be done through four lunch-time sessions three of which are facilitated by a Learning Skills and Resource Assistant, where we will look at books of a specific author and discuss the storyline, and how students feel about the text.

“In the fourth session the author of that text will deliver a workshop to the group where we will encourage students to engage in the session by discussing their thoughts around the book and ask questions. As part of the project, students will receive a goodie bag with items useful for the sessions, including two books. It promises to be an exciting programme of courses.”
