Laura Calder, Forth Valley College’s Head of Business Transformation, has been awarded a top prize by Heriot-Watt University.
She has been awarded the Deputy Principal’s Award for the 2020-21 Academic year, recognising academic excellence in students who achieve Grade A – or equivalent – in six or more courses studied as part of their undergraduate degree during one year.
Laura will now join a list of award winners which will be maintained by Heriot-Watt University’s Registry and Academic Support Department and be included in her enhanced transcript.
In a letter sent to Laura, Professor John W Sawkins, Deputy Principal (Education & Student Life) at Heriot-Watt University, said: “Whilst these are challenging times, the commitment to excellence demonstrated by all award winners, is a firm foundation on which to build. My congratulations.”
After recently becoming one of the first cohort of FVC staff to complete the innovative Leadership Development Programme, Laura was offered the opportunity to be part of the Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) at Heriot-Watt where she has just completed her third year of a Masters of Art in Business Management.
Laura, said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive the Deputy Principal's Award for my course results 2020-2021. It was such a lovely surprise and I feel really honoured. I am so lucky to be part of the GA programme where I am able to learn while I work at the college. Having the chance to be on this course has allowed me to gain the underpinning knowledge needed for my role and gain more confidence. I am really grateful to Forth Valley College for giving me this opportunity.”
