Launch of new Student Mental Health Agreement at FVC
SMHA Group

A refreshed and updated Student Mental Health Agreement (SMHA) at Forth Valley College, aims to continue to raise awareness and promote positive wellbeing for students during their studies and as they transition out of College.

The agreement sets out the College and Students Association’s commitment to working in partnership to promote positive mental wellbeing for all students.

A series of five pledges – promising to provide students with mental health and wellbeing support surrounding their studies and personal life and to  support their educational attainment – have been agreed by an experienced and knowledgeable committee of staff and student representatives.

The pledges are:

  1. To highlight support services, both internal and external, that are available to students throughout the academic year.
  2. To hold mental health events and activities throughout the year to raise awareness, offer support and guidance as well as challenge stigma and discrimination.
  3. To provides development opportunities to students to support themselves and each other.
  4. To develop our digital platforms and teaching approaches to give students the autonomy to navigate support and information themselves.
  5. And… to provide students with a variety of different activities that will promote relaxation and positive wellbeing.

Claire Green, Vice President Forth Valley Student Association, said: “We are delighted to be launching this agreement in partnership with the College. Simply put, we are all impacted by our mental health, and it affects not only how we feel, but also our ability to work, engage and learn efficiently. We are sure the Student Mental Health Agreement will benefit students immensely.”

Anna Vogt, FVC’s head of Inclusion and Student Services, said: “I am so pleased that the College and Student Association are continuing our partnership working around the Student Mental Health Agreement. This partnership is essential to ensuring that student voices are centred in our mental health and wellbeing services and that the College is designing and delivering resources and support in a way that works for our students.”
