A group of four NQ Pathway to Fitness, Health and Exercise students encouraged participants to row, cycle and run their way to raise cash for a good cause recently.

As part of the Event Organisation course unit they organised an ‘Indoor Teams of 3 Triathlon’ in the Falkirk Campus gym on Friday 26 April in order to push fitness levels and raise fund for Strathcarron Hospice.

A total of £78 was raised for the charity as participants rowed, cycled and ran for five minutes each on the gym cardio machines… as fast as they could!

Lecturer Iain Milligan, said: “NQ Pathways to Fitness, Health & Exercise students Alicia, Cian, Kian and Jay delivered a fantastic indoor triathlon event as part of their Event Organisation unit. The fact that they managed to raise some money in aid of Strathcarron Hospice in the process was an added achievement. This was another example of Forth Valley College students representing themselves and the College in a positive fashion.

FVC’s Leisure Facilities Coordinator Wai Mun Lee took part in the event and said: “It was a great event, though it took a little bit of convincing for me to take part, as people who know me, know that cardio isn’t really my thing. So it really did take me out of my comfort zone. Well done to the students who organised the event, a job well done.”

Gym Assistant Steve Fleming also took part and said: “These students have done well to organise this event as part of their event management unit. The triathlon based event was fun and it was a good wee challenge to beat Wai, as cardio is not our favourite thing to do in the gym. Congratulations to Alicia, Cammy, Cian and Kian for the event and also for raising some money for Strathcarron Hospice.

Alicia McCann one of the organising students, said: “I’ve always been a fan of helping people, and helping people go above and beyond to do things they never thought they could. Everyone did phenomenally well in the event, everyone who took part and everyone who helped set it up. We raised a good amount of money for it being a small event, and I couldn’t be happier knowing that we are helping Strathcarron Hospice. I am thankful for this opportunity and proud of everyone involved!”
