Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was the venue for a Health and Social Care conference/workshop recently, involving delegates from Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and representatives from the Forth Valley University College NHS Partnership.
The aim of the workshop was to promote the learning pathway options that are available to school/college partnership pupils and school leavers. During this time delegates shared the outcomes achieved by the Forth Valley University College NHS partnership so far including:
- Pilot simulation and immersive learning experiences for FVC learners delivered by NHS FV Scottish Simulation Centre
- Establish accredited learning pathways from fourth year senior phase to NHS Career within Nursing and AHS
- Introduce school pathway for Uniformed and Emergency Services. Starting August 23
- Portfolio of skills boost courses to support access to entry level NHS FV Care workforce. Now available on our website.
The conference also promoted the articulation which FVC has with the University of Stirling to Nursing Degrees, and the option for mature learners to study on a part-time basis via the university’s Access to Nursing program. While NHS Forth Valley presented on the broad range of career options available via the NHS across nursing, allied health professions, facilities and support roles.
It is understood that 8000 new and replacement roles will be required within the health and social care workforce in the Forth Valley over the next 12 years, and events like this are contributing to meeting this requirement.
Sarah Higgins, Director of Curriculum in FVC’s Department of Care, Sport Business and Communities, who hosted the event, said: “It was great to welcome everyone to the conference and to discuss and debate some very important matters relating to health and social care. The Forth Valley University College NHS Partnership is working very well to bring benefits to the local communities it represents and I am sure the Skills Development Scotland delegates who attended, were impressed with or aims and goals and how we hope to achieve them.”
