Forth Valley Student Association have been shortlisted for a prestigious award by the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland.

They have been nominated in the category of Colleges’ Student Association of the Year, which recognises the achievements of Students’ Associations over the past 12 months in shaping education and empowering individuals.

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner during the NUS Scotland conference on the evening of Tuesday 28 March at Surgeons Quarter, Royal College of Surgeons, in Edinburgh.

Also on the shortlist are City of Glasgow College Students' Association, Dumfries and Galloway College Student Association, Fife College Students Association and West Lothian College Student Association.

A spokesperson for the NUS, said: “NUS Scotland awards are an annual celebration of the excellent work students’ associations, officers and staff do across Scotland. They are an opportunity to applaud the unsung heroes from the movement, whilst reflecting on the standout stories and achievements of the past year.

“They are a great opportunity to recognise the hard work and excellence of everyone within the movement over the last year. This is done by nominating - it is an opportunity to share best practice, showcase outstanding results, and recognise the impact of students’ associations and what they do to make a difference to students in their everyday lives.

Claire Green, FVSA Vice President: “The Student Association are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted as College Student Association of the Year! Since being elected, I have seen our students going through some challenging times such as Covid recovery, cost of living crisis and much more!

“As a Student Association we have supported our students by running a number of projects and events - the Students' Pantry which offers free food, sanitary products and other items for any student at college, and Paws Against Stress sessions which offered students a safe and relaxing space to spend time with pet therapy dogs. These are only a couple of example of ways the Student Association have worked hard to improve student wellbeing and the overall student experience.”
