A tasty trio from Forth Valley College have been crowned MSK UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year 2016.

Nicole Gray (17) from Bo’ness, Laura Carswell (19) from Doune – Both HNC Professional Cookery students and Marcus Rawding (19) from Tillicoultry who is studying for and HND in Hospitality Management, competed at the prestigious Skills for Chefs event at the Sheffield City College on Thursday 7 July and served up a first place finish.
As well as the top prize trophy, the three eager students won a four day trip to Barcelona and the chance to dine at a restaurant which holds two Michelin Stars.
Laura Carswell, who made the beetroot calzone starter and the pork main course, said:
"It was brilliant and I loved every minute of it. We just went out there and tried our best and worked well as a team and we managed to win. It all went so fast, but I enjoyed it very much.”
Chef Lecturer Martin Luti, who accompanied the team to Sheffield and who has been mentoring them through their training for the event over the last few weeks, said:
“I am so happy for them. They have worked really hard over the last few weeks. I am so proud of them.”
Aiveen Cassidy, Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Department of Hospitality and Salon Services, said:
“I am so proud of the team. They put so much effort in and managed to win the top prize. It really is a fantastic achievement and a big well done to them. This is a prestigious competition against some of the biggest and best catering colleges in the UK and for us to have won, shows the high standards and quality our students - and in turn our staff – are working to.”
