A ‘Positive Progress’ report has been received by Forth Valley College after a team of HM Inspectors from Education Scotland visited the College in October 2022 to undertake an Annual Engagement Visit.
During the visit, Education Scotland spoke to learners, staff and stakeholders, and worked closely with the senior managers and found ‘major strengths’ in the work of the college in the areas of:
- Recruitment
- Retention
- Attainment
- Progression
Feedback from students who took part in the review was also understood to be very positive, with many indicating the College was a “safe space”.
The College were delighted to receive more than 40 positive statements and only two areas of improvement were identified, covering full-time attainment rates and ensuring that all staff received appropriate updated training.
The previous Education Scotland Progress Visit in February 2022 explored five overarching themes linked to the college’s enhancement plan and priorities around COVID-19 recovery. This involved a review of Curriculum, learning, teaching and assessment; Services to support learning; Learner engagement; Evaluation to facilitate improvement; and Learner progress and outcomes. The overall outcome of that report was of ‘Satisfactory Progress’ – the latest report on the College has continued in this positive direction.
Professor Ken Thomson, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “The latest October 2022 visit and subsequent report from Education Scotland, has shown just how well run Forth Valley College is - this is a great review and underlines how we continue to be recognised as one of the best Colleges in the country.
“The feedback is as good as possible from Education Scotland and we are delighted we are working towards the targets and milestones. I’m delighted to say that the progress visit went very well and we are making positive progress towards all our objectives. A massive thank you to all those involved in helping the College to achieve this.”
