Two Ghanaian oil and gas industry technicians were inspired to book a course at Forth Valley College’s CompEx Training Centre after a college delegation visited their country.
Instrument Technician Samuel Agunu Da Silver (30) and Electrical Technician Joel Kobla Mevemo (30) both from Accra the capital of Ghana and both employees of MODEC - a general contractor specialising in engineering, procurement, construction and installation of floating production systems including Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels – were impressed when a delegation from FVC visited in early 2016 to deliver an introduction workshop to prepare engineers to apply for the CompEx courses.
Samuel, who completed the week long 01-04 CompEx Hazardous Area Inspection and Installation course, said:
“It really inspired us and made us want to progress and do the full CompEx course which we have just completed here at the FVC Falkirk Campus. It has been a great experience to come to Scotland and do this course. Once it has all been explained to us and we understand it it makes reproducing it in the workplace easy. Our other colleagues back home are already preparing to come and do it and we will definitely recommend they come to Scotland and to Forth Valley College.”
Joel, who completed the same course, said:
“We really enjoyed the introduction course and we have been looking forward to coming here to do the CompEx course and it hasn’t disappointed. The lecturers have been great and the people are really nice. It will definitely help us in our careers and we are certainly going to make a lot of noise about this course when we go back home and speak to our colleagues.”
Alistair McKean, FVC CompEx lecturer, said:
“The CompEx 01-04 Hazardous area inspection and installation course is a very challenging one for anyone working in this industry, and it was great to welcome Samuel and Joel to our training centre. They have been great students.”
