Care, Health and Sport students flocked to the main hall in the Falkirk Campus today (Thursday 1 September) for a special Sport & Fitness Volunteering and Work experience Fair.
More than a dozen voluntary organisations hosted stands to give around 200 students advice on how they can volunteer. This adds value and learning experiences to their academic studies and is also what employers would be looking for from students when they graduate.
Those who attended included: Galaxy Sports, Falkirk Community Trust, Box Soccer, Dunblane Centre, Skidaddle, Stenhousemuir FC: Warriors in the Community, Forth Valley Sensory Centre, Scottish Rugby Union, PLUS (Forth Valley) Ltd, The Colour of our Scarves, Personal Best and MXP Fitness.
A small number of organisations weren’t able to attend at the last minute, but will be returning to speak to students later in the month.
Chris Horne, Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Department of Care, Health and Sport, said:
“The idea of the event is to get our students thinking about volunteering and apply it to their learning. It also helps them to network with potential employers. It has definitely been worthwhile and the response we have had from all the employers who attended has been really positive. We hope to make it bigger and better next year!”
