Creative and Digital Media Foundation Apprentices from Forth Valley College teamed up with an academic from the University of Glasgow recently to help with an important research project.

Dr Anna Watson was delighted to work with the FA school pupils as part of her ‘Waste Stories’ research project, to create animations to make people think about marine litter inland.

This involved a site visit to the Falkirk Wheel and surrounding canals where the group carried out a big litter pick with Carol Bell from Keep Scotland Beautiful. The students then chose a piece of litter and created an animation from it.

FVC Creative Industries lecturer, Stacey Lange, said: “They are hoping to target young people who may be sick of hearing about recycling, or who have become deaf to the 'blue planet' messaging.

“My lecturing colleague Colm Clerkin and I are very proud of the FA’s work on their animations this year and really worked hard on their skills. They have produced some really good work that will definitely catch the attention of the young target audience. We are proud to have introduced digital animation skills this year on our Foundation Apprenticeship.”
