Falkirk Campus - RIBA Stirling Prize Shortlist

Forth Valley College’s £78 million Falkirk Campus has just missed out on winning the 2022 Stirling Prize for the UK’s best new building.

The RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Stirling Prize is the highest accolade in UK architecture and recognises the most significant building of the year for the evolution of architecture and the built environment.

The College was up against five other buildings, and was only one of two buildings on the shortlist out with London. The overall winner - The New Library, Magdalene College - was announced on Thursday 13 October 2022 at the RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London.

The Stirling Prize finalists were chosen from the Royal Institute of British Architect’s (RIBA) 29 national award winners.

Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was awarded this accolade in June, along with a RIAS (Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland) prize for 2022.

The campus was submitted for the awards by architects Reiach and Hall, who designed all three of the College’s campuses.

Professor Ken Thomson OBE, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “We’re naturally disappointed that our Falkirk Campus has just missed out on winning the prestigious 2022 Stirling Prize. However, despite being a runner-up this recognition is exciting for both the College and Scotland. With the help of Reiach and Hall and other key partners, our stunning campus has captured the imagination of the architectural world and ensured we have successfully achieved our vision for the learning environments of the future. Our inspirational, contemporary design and progressive approach to space across the campus is set to benefit learners for years to come. The recognition for all our campuses has also demonstrated excellent public investment and proved the important role Forth Valley College is playing across both the Scottish education sector and the country as a whole.”
