HND Events Management students from Forth Valley College helped youngsters get active at Comely Park Primary School in Falkirk recently.
Stirling Campus based Julie Harrop, Elina Bunga, Kayleigh Yeardly, Carolann Mcgeoch, Michele Hunter, Stacey Bruton, Sean Cooper, Kirstie Watson, Stacy Gilmour and Christina Green organised the event on Friday 29 November, as part of a section of their course.
One of the student organisers, Stacy Gilmour, said: “The aim of the event is to raise awareness of equality and inclusiveness by including all pupils in activities where they will be equally involved in their house teams.
“We have decided to use the full school because we are trying to promote how important exercise is in children’s physical development. Research has shown that if children take part in regular exercise it helps them to develop muscle strength and this helps to stop risk of injury. Research also shows that children who take part in sport and exercise, find that it helps them to stay active throughout later life.
“Keeping fit can improve how children learn at school, it builds their self-esteem and over all improves their mental health and wellbeing. Because of our modern lifestyles and increasing resilience on technology, we are now less active today than we have ever been and if our children continue to be less active this could continue into adulthood.”
