Two Painting and Decorating Modern Apprentices just missed out on the top award at an inter-college competition recently.
Kieran McKay (19) from Sauchie who works with JK Decorators and Josh Carroll (18) from Tullibody who works with Marshall Construction finished runners-up in the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers (SAPCT) Craft team category at the event that was held at Dundee and Angus College on Thursday 14 June.
They were up against 11 other teams and over a period of more than six hours – starting from 9am – had to hand wallpaper, use rag rolling techniques and use their sign writing skills in the challenge.
Kieran, who is just moving into the third year of his MA, said: “I am proud of how we performed on the day. Training at the College has certainly prepared us for taking part in competitions like this.”
Josh, who is also about to start his third year, added, said: “It is a good achievement to come second. The lecturers and facilities at Forth Valley College have certainly helped us improve as painters and decorators and I can’t wait to take part in competitions again in the future.”
FVC Painting and Decorating Lecturer, Graeme Williamson, said: “Josh and Kieran have done very well and put a lot of hard work into getting ready for the competition. They were unlucky not to have won and we are all very proud of them.”
