Additional Support Worker David Crossley and his wife Helen successfully completed the West Highland Way Ultra run and raised £1385 in aid of the British Red Cross, while celebrating their wedding anniversary at the same time.
David, who works in Forth Valley College’s Business and Communities Department and Helen, spent the weekend of the 28 and 29 May trying to complete ‘The West Highland Way Challenge Race’ ultra-trail marathon - a 95-mile point-to-point race taking in some of Scotland's finest outdoor scenery.
The ultimate goal was to start in Fort William and cross the finish line in Milngavie within the time limit of 35 hours and raise as much money as possible for good causes, including support for the people of Ukraine.
David said: “Helen and I are pleased to inform you that we completed the West Highland Way Challenge and our first Ultra 96 miles. It was a fantastic event, with stunning scenery and the organisers and volunteers were amazing standing out all day and night to make sure we were fed watered and motivated! Could not thank them enough or have completed it without them.
“We are in awe of everyone who could do this in crazy sub 24 hour times now, knowing the terrain and obstacles underfoot. Superhuman indeed!
“Never had to dig so deep to achieve anything as we did during the run. Not everything went to plan, the last 12 miles were a total mind game and the hallucinations were real.
“We have both been overwhelmed with the support, good luck messages, and donations. Thank you all!”
