Sports lecturers have teamed up with Cricket Scotland and Westquarter and Redding Cricket Club to once again introduce the game to more Forth Valley College students.
All Star Cricket coaches Stephen and Helen Sutton visited the college’s Falkirk Campus on Tuesday 19 December to encourage more people to volunteer for their All Star program.
Since the last cricket showcase in September three FVC students have become enthusiastic voluntary coaches for the club who are currently helping with the delivery of the All Star program throughout Callendar, Stirling and Falkirk.
Encouraged by a guest appearance from Nicola Wilson - Female Cricket Scotland Participation Manager - who is actively promoting two new Cricket Scotland initiatives ‘CricHIIT’ and ‘Womens’ Soft Ball Cricket’ to attract more women to take up the sport as a ways and means of getting fit, keeping healthy and having fun.
Wai Mun Lee, FVC’s Leisure Facilities Co-ordinator worked with Care, Health and Sports Lecturers Michelle Hamilton and Iain Milligan to organise this taster session involving two sports classes from Skills for Work, Sport and Recreation and HND Coaching and Development Sport (B Group). This event proved to be a great opportunity to allow students to participate and learn about all three Cricket Scotland Initiatives.
Wai, said: “This was another great session. The enthusiasm, knowledge and experience shown by Cricket Scotland gives us all confidence that our students are in safe hands and not only will they learn how much fun cricket can be, but this will open up employment opportunities for our students in the future. Our Sports Department are constantly trying to enhance our students’ learning and it’s a pleasure to work in partnership with Cricket Scotland.”
