Prestigious national recognition has been bestowed upon Forth Valley College after they were finalists in three categories at the TES Further Education Awards 2020.

FVC was short-listed in the categories of FE College of the Year, Outstanding Use of Technology for Improving Teaching, Learning and Assessment and Contribution to the Local Community at an online ceremony on Friday 16 October.

Shortlisting meant that FVC were in the top eight colleges in the UK in these categories for 2020, and once again shows how the college is sector leading across the UK.

The submission for the College of the Year focussed on the college’s strategic approach and its Making Learning Work ethos, which has been backed up by national recognition of the significant contribution the college makes for their students, the local community and wider economy.

The submission for the ‘Outstanding Use of Technology’ focussed on the College’s approach to innovative tech through the creative learning and technology strategy.

The submission for the Contribution to the Local Community focussed on the College’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) outreach training programme for schools and youth organisations in the Forth Valley area. This initiative was also recognised as a Scottish national winner at the College Development Network Awards last November.

FVC Principal Dr Ken Thomson, said: “Hardly a year goes by without Forth Valley College gaining UK wide recognition for its innovative, progressive and creative initiatives and once again – by being finalists at these prestigious awards – we have shown that we are sector leaders, not only in Scotland, but across the whole of the UK. That’s exceptional for a college of our size.

“These awards were meant to be held back in March at hotel in London, but like so many things they were postponed due to the pandemic lockdown. The last six months or so have been difficult for everyone, but I am proud to say we have risen to meet the challenges that we have faced. Hopefully this recognition will inspire Forth Valley College, all its staff and its students to even greater success in the future.”
