CDN shortlist FVC for annual award
CDN Awards 2020

College Development Network (CDN) have shortlisted Forth Valley College for one of their annual awards.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic this year’s awards will be announced at a virtual celebration on Thursday 3 December, 2020 and FVC are shortlisted in the Health Promoting College category, up against City of Glasgow College and West College Scotland.

As an organisation, FVC has continued to embed Health and Well-being into its college policies and procedures for staff and students.

Examples of approaches taken this year include:

  • Working with local under-represented groups in providing enhanced health and well-being opportunities, not readily accessible to them through mainstream educational provision.
  • Working in collaboration with the NHS to provide guidance and advice on changing lifestyle behaviour of their staff and clientele to enhance health and wellbeing through physical activity.
  • Providing FVC staff and students with online led physical activity sessions as an immediate response to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
  • Introduction of FVC Mental Health Ambassador role to support staff in positive mental health.
  • Gym staff providing free gym memberships to students who are signed up for counselling.
  • Forth Valley College and its Student Association jointly signing the Student Mental Health Agreement
  • Collaboration with FVC Active Travel Coordinator to encourage active travel to and from work.

In addition to these, health and well-being has also been embedded in two of FVC’s Strategic and Operational planning groups:  Sustainability, and Equality & Diversity and represented on these groups are staff from both teaching and support teams as well as a member of the Student Association (SA) to highlight the student voice.

Dr Ken Thomson, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award. The annual College Development Network Awards showcases examples of best practise across the Scottish further education sector and for us to once again to be in contention for a top award is great recognition of the work we do.”
