Book up for new College Book Club

Book up for new College Book Club
(L to R) Chris McQueer, Nuala Scott and Lisa MacLaren

Three short stories by award winning author and friend of Forth Valley College, Chris McQueer, will be the focus of a new Book Club set to run at the College’s three Learning Resource Centres.

The club will run for four weeks, with a visit from Chris himself on the last week to talk about his book and for those attending to ask him questions. Members who sign up will receive a copy of each of Chris McQueer's books, a selection of stationery items, colouring books and lunch and snacks will be provided.

The charismatic author and broadcaster visited the Falkirk Campus last November as part of a Book Week Scotland event, and is pictured here with Lisa MacLaren, FVC’s Learning Services Manager and Nuala Scott, FVC’s Learning Skills and Resource Assistant.

Back then, from the boardroom due to lockdown restrictions, he delivered a lively online session and gave readings from his books: 'Hings' published in 2017 which won the Best Short Story Collection at the 2018 Saboteur Awards and his next series HWFG (Here We F*****g Go) published in 2018.

Growing up in the east End of Glasgow, Chris makes good use of the Scots language within his work. Among his many talents, Chris has worked as a crime scene cleaner prior to becoming a full-time author.

David Gentles, FVC Learning Skills and Resource Assistant, said: “We are extremely excited to be working with Chris again, his previous session was so engaging and inspiring that he was the clear choice to launch our new book club. We hope that students will welcome this opportunity to be involved with the LRC and meet new friends.”
