Bo’ness photos make Edgaras snap happy

First year HND Photography student Edgaras Borotnskas (31), who lives in the town snapped a waterfall in autumn, a misty country lane and a raindrop covered spider’s web and submitted them to the annual competition.

The professional judges liked what they saw and he was nominated in the final of the Student category – but just missed out on the top three. However, he will have his pictures featured in a special book of all the finalists which will be published in the summer.

Edgaras, who used a 550D Canon camera to take his photographs, said:

“I am really happy to be nominated in this competition as it is professional photographers who are the judges, so it is great they like my work.

“I used to study building engineering, but I needed to do something more creative and photography is perfect for me. I might see something that would be a good photograph, but I might come back to the same spot and take it when it is at sunrise or sunset or when it is in a different season. That is what I did with the waterfall photo. I waited until autumn when the leaves had fallen and it worked really well. I had to scramble down the river bank in my wellies, holding onto branches to get that one!"

“I really enjoy the course I am doing at Forth Valley College. The lecturers are very helpful and are always ready to give you tips, advice and the benefit of their experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.”
