Tasty sweet and savoury delicacies were on the menu for NC Bakery students competing in the annual Bake Off competition, at the Forth Valley College Stirling Campus on Monday 27 May.
Three teams took part – two teams of two and one individual – and they all played their part in an exciting test of culinary expertise on the day. Judges were ex-student and current Pastry Chef at the luxury Gleneagles resort in Perthshire Emma Maguire, FVC Lecturer and Star Home Baker Janet Gowran and FVC Chef Lecturer George Scott.
Gold winners were Falkirk Campus based Ana Barkovska and Charley Kennedy and joint Silver winners were Zoe Bell and Ryan Nimmo – who are based at the Stirling Campus - and Mariam Sillah who also studies at Stirling - all on the NC Bakery course.
All received a certificate and a voucher, with the Gold winners also being presented with the HNC Patisserie book they’ll need for next year to help them through the course.
Karyn King, FVC’s Operations Manager in the Department of Creative, Digital and Leisure Industries, said: “This is the second year of running the ‘Forth Valley Bake Off Competition’ for our NC Bakery students, and it was fantastic to see such high standards from all competitors. The hard work and dedication put in to their afternoon teas was very evident, and a testament to the hard work of the students and the lecturers who have supported them this year.”
