Newly qualified Forth Valley College CompEx Trainer/Assessor Anthony Higgins, has worked very hard to complete his qualification more than 10 months earlier than expected.

A process that normally take candidates 12-18 months to complete, saw Anthony achieve this in a much quicker timescale due to his qualifications and previous experience having worked in the offshore oil and gas industry for 20 years, and more recently as a project electrical engineer in the water industry.

Alistair McKean, FVC’s Lead Commercial Trainer and Anthony's line manager, said: “This is a very challenging process and a lot of hard work has been put into this by Anthony over the last eight months, shadowing the rest of the team whilst carrying out Training and Assessment of various courses, then delivering parts of the assessment process under supervision with observation reports written by the team.

“He then progressed onto completing his Technical Board, Assessor Qualification, Teacher Training program and finally his witness assessment conducted by JTLimited, where he achieved the final sign off and received his CompEx Trainer/Assessor certificate.  Anthony now joins a very small group of people worldwide qualified to deliver these CompEx Core Competency Qualifications.

“A special thanks to Michelle Taylor for supporting him with his assessor qualification, to Alan Montgomery, Charlie Simpson and Francis Binnie for all the dedicated support shown to Anthony since he joined the department.

“I look forward to seeing Anthony grow within this great team and support us to meet our aim - building a dynamic business model to meet the ever changing demands of industry, whilst providing the highest level of safety training for employers delivered by a passionate, knowledgeable team of instructors within state of the art facilities. A huge well done Anthony.”

Anthony, said: “I had completed the CompEx course and 18th Edition training with the Electrical Safety Team at Forth Valley College and I was always impressed by their knowledge and passion for the subject.

“When the chance came about to join the team I couldn’t resist. I knew there would be a lot of studying to complete my trainer/assessor qualification, however I always believed in continual education even for an experienced electrical technician like myself.

“The support from our team and the college as a whole, was fantastic and even during lockdown we communicated every day. My family were also so supportive during this period and I would just like to thank my fiancé Gillian and our daughter Joy, for giving me the time to study through the lockdown period.”
