Forth Valley College’s International Development Manager Andrew Campbell has just returned from promoting the college’s expertise in West Africa.

As part of a Scottish Oil & Gas delegation organised by Scottish Development International (SDI) Andrew was in Ghana and Nigeria as part of the SDI mission (from 21 January to 27 January) to gain understanding of local market conditions and to look for potential local partners.

Whilst in Ghana, Andrew was also able to provide support to Senior CompEx Trainer Alan Montgomery. Alan was in the African country’s capital Accra on Friday 15 January for a week, delivering the innovative CompEx Foundation and the Introduction to Installation courses to 14 eager employees of MODEC, a contractor to the huge Tullow Oil company.

Andrew said:

“It was a very productive trip and provided me with an insight into two oil and gas markets with demand for technical training. I have certainly made a lot of good contacts and met many people representing organisations who are very interested in the expertise and training Forth Valley College has to offer. The plan now is to follow up several positive leads and I’m confident the college now has a bigger profile in two completely different markets. For me the trip has been very worthwhile.”

The delegation to visit Nigeria comprised 13 companies and organisations including: 271 Offshore, ACE Winches, AGR, Crummock Oil and Gas, Forth Valley College, Glasgow Caledonian University, JEE Ltd, McDermott Marine Construction Ltd, Peprime Limited, Plexus Ocean Systems Limited, RigNet Africa, Robert Gordon University and Zenith Energy.
