Alloa Campus Open Evening success

An open evening event promoting courses and apprenticeship opportunities available at Forth Valley College attracted dozens of people to the Alloa Campus recently (Wednesday 7 November).

Representatives from the college’s teaching departments and Business Development Team were on hand to offer advice and guidance on the wide range of courses available at the College including full-time courses from access to Degree level, Modern Apprenticeships, new Foundation Apprenticeships, evening courses, business training courses and flexible learning programmes.

In addition, support teams were available to offer careers advice and answer questions on funding, learning support and applying to college. Skills Development Scotland were also in attendance to give advice and the event included campus tours.

Forth Valley College launched their 2019/20 Prospectus recently and are encouraging people to apply online now for full-time courses available from January and August 2018 and live apprenticeship vacancies in life sciences and engineering, starting in August 2019.

Another open event is planned for later this month at the Stirling Campus on Thursday 15 November from 4.30pm – 7.00pm.

One potential student who attended, Shirley-Ann Smullen from Alloa, was happy to talk about why she had come along. She said: "I want to learn new things and new skills. I want to go down the line of Management and I came here for someone to lead me in the right direction and find out how to reach that goal."

Dr Ken Thomson, Principal for Forth Valley College said: “Our open evenings offer a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and find out about the different options available to them – whether they’re interested in a mainstream course, finding out about Modern Apprenticeship vacancies currently on offer, thinking about studying for a Foundation Apprenticeship while still at school or pursuing a degree.

“These events are also really useful if you’re considering applying to college but have questions surrounding student finance or the application process for example – and they’re also an excellent opportunity to find out what qualifications employers are looking for.”
