A Forth Valley College Carpentry and joinery Modern Apprentice secured a third place finish in a national competition recently (Saturday 18 May)
Falkirk Council joiner Alastair Penman (19) from Shieldhill, who is in the second year of his MA, was competing in the Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers (SATTT) Annual Craft Competition held this year at the Fraserburgh Campus of North East Scotland College (NESCol)
Competitors were asked to complete a challenge of to manufacture a key cabinet, putting into practice the skills and knowledge gained at college. Alastair’s third place has seen him go one better than last year when he finished joint fourth.
John McCluskey, FVC Construction Lecturer, said: “Alastair has always shown great potential. He is very confident person and his joinery skills are advanced for this level of his apprenticeship. Thought he would do well in competition”.
Gordon Berry, Secretary of SATTT, and also a lecturer at Forth Valley College, said: “Alastair did exceptionally well and did a good job to be placed third in a very competitive field.”
