Learning Development Facilitators, as part of the wider Learning Support Team, at Forth Valley College strive to create and improve upon an inclusive college experience for students with Autism.

As Autism is a spectrum condition, LDFs at FVC pride themselves in learning from their students, which allows them to have an active role in shaping the support that they receive.

  • Together with the student, they complete a Personal Learning Support Plan, which details their individual support needs and teaching and assessment recommendations. The support recommendations can be adapted throughout the course, as required.
  • They conduct regular reviews with the students, and ensure that support is available from pre-entry to course completion.
  • They offer orientation sessions prior to the start of the course to help the student settle into their new environment.
  • Named support links are available throughout the course to discuss any concerns and facilitate communication with teaching and relevant support staff.
  • They offer regular sessions with a Learning Mentor to help e.g. with study skills, organisation, time management.
  • Training on assistive technology and loan of equipment is also provided.
  • At HN level and above, they are qualified to undertake needs assessments to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance funding from SAAS.
