Results Day: The Parents' Guide

Results Day: The Parents' Guide
Parents are a key source of support following exam results

Exam results mean it’s now time for your child to make some important decisions regarding their future.

Whether they’re delighted with their results or disappointed, clear on what they want to do or still uncertain, it’s highly likely that they’ll turn to you for advice.

With this in mind, we’ve put together a list of reasons why Forth Valley College should be an option you encourage your child to consider:

Lots of options
We still have a wide range of courses available starting August 2023, from access to degree level in a variety of subjects. Which is perfect if your child would like to go to college or university but haven’t yet applied or their results are either better than expected or not as good as they’d hoped.

Have a browse on our website here to see what’s available.

Help & advice
Our Support and Guidance Advisors are happy to chat to both potential applicants and their parents to offer advice on course choices and next steps.

Alternative pathways
There’s lots of different pathways to most types of jobs. Access courses at the College can lead to Higher National qualifications which in turn can allow students to progress to year 2 or 3 of a university degree. Forth Valley College also offer degrees where students complete years 1 & 2 at college before moving on to one of our partner universities to complete their course.

Modern Apprenticeships are another popular work-based qualification available which can lead directly to employment.

It’s worth helping your child research all the different options available to them before making a final decision.

Our students are highly employable
Whichever path they follow, the end aim is the same for most young people – to get a job they are good at and enjoy.

Forth Valley College has extensive links with employers and our courses deliver the skills that employers are looking for in future employees. Many of our course, including our degrees, also have a focus on practical, hands-on skills with lots of opportunities for work experience and placements.

High chance of success
Over 94% of all our students progress to further study or employment upon completion of their course – proof that completing a course at Forth Valley College is an excellent starting point for a successful career.

Final advice?
The important thing throughout this process is to stay positive and don’t panic! Arm your child with as much information possible and them support them in the decision that’s right for them.

Good luck!
