City & Guilds Make-Up Artistry - SCQF Level 5 (SCHOOLS)

The aim of the unit is to introduce the learner to the development of a theme based image, linking their ideas to research undertaken via media images related to advertising.

Learners will develop skills to prepare and implement a mood board demonstrating their imaginative and creative skills.

Throughout this unit they must also demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative and/or as part of a team and produce a written evaluation report.

Attendance:

Alloa: Tuesday & Thursday (afternoons)

Stirling: Friday (all day)

There are two outcomes for this unit:

  • Be able to plan an image
  • Be able to create an image

The Unit will be assessed by:

  • Practical skills and
  • Knowledge and understanding task(s) in an assignment.

As part of this course the learners will have a series of work experience opportunities in the college commercial salon where they will be required to assist lecturing staff, technicians and other learners in the salon.

Candidates should be able to complete coursework in college however there may be times when they will have to do additional work at home. All candidates must be able to work in a team and must wear appropriate PPE whilst in salons.

They must also follow salon rules in relation to appropriate dress code for both the hair and beauty salon, as well as the college code of conduct.

After further training candidates could progress to a career as a:

  • Hairdresser
  • Beauty Therapist
  • Nail Technician
  • Make-up Artist

Or working in:

  • Salons
  • Spas
  • On board cruise-liners
  • On cosmetic counters
  • Television or theatre 
  • Becoming self-employed

This course would be a useful addition to the CV of any learner who wishes to continue their studies in the hair or beauty sectors.

  • Candidates will be interviewed on an individual basis and will need to demonstrate a willingness to succeed as an individual and as part of a team
