City & Guilds Hairdressing Level 2

This course develops the skills and knowledge for a career in hairdressing and the service industries. Students will develop competence and efficiency in all aspects of hairdressing and the ability and confidence to meet the needs of the hairdressing industry. Students will be able to enhance their hairdressing skills by participating in a work placement one day per week.

Course content includes:

Year 1:

  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Work placement 1 day per week

Year 2:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Plait and twist hair
  • College commercial salon
  • Work placement 1 day per week

  • Employment within the hairdressing industry

  • Progression to Year 2 is only guaranteed on successful completion of year 1
  • City & Guilds Hairdressing Level 3

  • National 4 award (or equivalent) in English
  • Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered

Additional Requirements:

  • Selection will be by interview
  • Due to Sector Skills Council requirements, applicants for this course must be aged 16 or over prior to enrolment

Requirements for progression to year 2:

  • Achievement of all first year units
  • Excellent attendance and timekeeping
  • Excellent work placement reference

• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
