Under the guidance of knowledgeable and experienced staff, students will master both practical and theoretical aspects, laying the foundation for a successful career in photography across various contexts.

Nestled in the stunning riverside setting of Forth Valley College's Stirling Campus, students will find inspiration and expert guidance to delve into photography and image manipulation techniques tailored for the digital age. The course emphasises enhancing theoretical knowledge and presentation skills.

Students will build a diverse portfolio, exploring social, corporate, documentary photography, and photo-journalism. Gain hands-on experience working on location and with photographic studio flash equipment, ensuring a well-rounded skill set for a dynamic photography career.

On successful completion of this course students may progress onto a related degree programme. Forth Valley College has formal articulation links in place for entry into year three of the following degree programmes:

  • BA Art and Design (Year three) at Forth Valley College (validated by the University of Stirling)
  • BA (Hons) Art and Design
  • BA (Hons) Photography
  • BA (Hons) Creative Enterprise – Fife College, Glenrothes campus (validated by Queen Margaret University)

Please note that each institution will have specific entry requirements.

Mandatory:

  • All applicants are required to demonstrate a portfolio of work during interview

Plus one of the following:

  • Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media and Higher Art at grade C or above
  • Two Highers at grade C or above to include Photography or Art and Design and, preferably, English. If applicants do not hold Higher English they must possess National 5 English.
  • National Certificate in a related discipline e.g. Photography, Art and Design or Media
  • Alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience will also be considered on an individual basis

• Before starting the application process, please ensure you already hold or are working towards the relevant entry qualifications required for the course you are applying for

• Please include as much detail as possible in your personal statement such as: the reason you are applying, future career plans, previous employment, relevant experience, hobbies and interests
• Disclosing support needs in your application will not affect your chances of being offered a place on a course at Forth Valley College
• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
• Applicants who provide a mobile phone number on their application form will be sent a text reminder prior to the day of interview
