- Learners will investigate the aims and purpose of counselling and develop an understanding about the counselling process.
- Learners will participate in practical activities where they will learn to counsel a client and they will reflect on their own counselling skills.
Counselling: An Introduction - Evening
This unit has been designed for learners who have no previous experience of counselling and it will introduce learners to the purpose and basic concepts and processes of counselling including reflective practice. This is an introductory unit it provides underpinning and basic knowledge of the subject, it does not in any way permit those who have achieved it to refer to themselves as qualified counsellors.
This introduction course may lead to consideration of an application to the main stream day courses offered by the Health and Social Care dept. For more information and advice please contact Curriculum Manager at jane.muir@forthvalley.ac.uk.

Student Paying
Fees of less than £150 must be paid in full. Payment by instalment is available, provided the course fee is £150 or greater. You can access a direct debit form here.
Instalments must be paid via direct debit over a 4-month period and an initial 30% deposit is required in order to secure your place. You will not be able to apply online if paying by direct debit please contact Evening Admissions - eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk.
Employer Paying
If your employer is paying for your tuition fees, an Employers Agreement Form or letter from your employer must be submitted prior to or on enrolment. You can access the Employer Agreement Form here. We ask that you complete the Employer Agreement Form and return via email to -eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk
Fee Waiver
You may be eligible for a fee waiver for your course if you meet the eligibility criteria which includes certain benefits such as Universal credit. Please click here to view the fee waiver document checklist which gives a list of the eligible benefits. Proof of these benefits must be submitted before a fee waiver can be processed.
