Introduction to a Career in Social Care

This is a six-week, part time, online tutor-supported course will introduce students to a career in Social Care, where opportunities are many and varied. The course has been designed for those who enjoy working with people, are compassionate, have a sense of fun and are seeking a new rewarding career helping others live their lives to the full.

Participants will be able to work through the learning materials online at their own pace, extending their learning through videos and links to further information.

A college tutor will be available to provide support and encouragement to ensure participant engagement with all the topics and to monitor progress. At the end of the course participants will have a final online meeting with a tutor who will check their understanding of all topics covered, and support them in exploring their next steps, either into employment, or further courses of study in Social Care.

There are five key themes within the course;

  • Understanding Social Care and the rewards and career opportunities working in the sector brings.
  • Introduction to value based care and team working
  • Best practice within Social Care
  • Reflection and learning while working in Social Care
  • Next steps, career advice and development

  • Leading to employment with a variety of social care services. The potential to work with a wide and diverse group of people who use care services. 

  • Academic progression is open to progress onto the college based care course: NQ Health and Social Care SCQF Level 5.

  • Looking for students who would like to change their career and/or would like the security that a career working in social care would bring.
