Inspirational mum of two Valerie Hornall, has retrained and started a whole new career with the help of Forth Valley College.
The 40 year-old from Bonnybridge completed her HND Computer Aided Architectural Design & Technology in June 2016 and has secured a job as an Architectural Technician at AGL Architects Ltd in Bridge of Allan.
Val, said: “I chose to study at Forth Valley College as it is my local college and I needed somewhere close to home as I have two children both in school. In fact it was my 12 year-old son Corey who inspired me to retrain for a new career, so I have him to thank.
“My first year was at the Stirling Campus where all the facilities were brand new. However, my second year was in Falkirk where it’s not so new, but adequate for our needs! The lecturers were just brilliant. I had a few personal issues towards the tail end of my first year and through my second year and they were so supportive. I couldn’t have asked for more, or done it without them.
“I am now working in a job that my course trained me for and I am just so much happier. The HND has allowed me to gain employment in the role I wanted, but along with that the course also gave me the confidence to continue with my change in career paths and the support from the lecturers kept me focused, when I could have so easily given up.
“The advice I would give to anyone thinking of applying for a Construction course at FVC would be – ‘If I can do it then anyone can!’ I don’t think I could pick out one specific part that was the best bit for me, I just thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.”
