It was the child friendly nature of Forth Valley College that persuaded one young mother it was the place she wanted to continue her education.
Stephanie Sneddon (23) needed to balance study with childcare when she decided to pursue a career in finance, and the Falkirk campus fitted the bill exactly.
“I choose to study at Forth Valley as it was local for me, and with having to drop my son off to childcare beforehand, it was the easiest option. They also provided a bursary and helped with childcare costs which really helped, without this, I wouldn’t have been able to start studying again,” said Stephanie.
“This has enabled me to secure a full time job as a trainee accountant which, I will be going straight into once I finish college.”
Stephanie’s journey started with a National Qualification (NQ): Finance before progressing to an HND Accounting and she will now be furthering her qualifications by studying for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams.
“My experience at college has benefited me as it has made me want to do something with my life and have a career in something I am interested in. I have learnt so many different things and it has made me realise that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it.”
The extra help Stephanie received in getting on to the career ladder was also appreciated.
“In the first year at college we also did a class where the lecturer would help us improve our CV’s and we would have mock interviews which I found helpful as I had never been for a proper interview before,” she said.
“The lecturers that have taught me over the last three years have been excellent, without their support I could never have achieved my qualifications. All in all I would say this support would be the main reason why I would recommend studying at Forth Valley.”
