Sarah Nugent - HNC Early Education

Sarah Nugent (20) from Stirling completed her HNC Early Education and Childcare June 2016 and is enjoying her role as a Supply Early Childhood Educator at Arnprior and Croftamie Nursery.

She, said: “I choose to study at Forth Valley College as before I passed my driving test this was the closest college that I could travel too. When applying I felt that the College had the best opportunities for myself as they have a simulated nursery, which I felt would allow me to get hands-on experience in the industry that I was hoping to get into.

“The campus is great, it has a warm welcoming feeling when you walking in. My three main lecturers, Lesley, Barbara and Carol have been the best. They have helped me through the worst time, they have been supportive, encouraging and an inspiration to me and I am sure to every one of my classmates.

“The experience I have had at the College has benefited me greatly. I have lots more confidence and am more aware of skills and qualities that I did not know I had.

“FVC lecturers organised a guest lecture for staff from the Stirling Council Supply team to come in and give my class a talk on how to get on the Early Years Supply List and what would be needed and expected of us. This helped a great deal, as more than half of the class are now on the supply list working in nurseries. Giving us opportunities to take part in placements has also helped as we have had the chance to show off our skills and qualities and put our knowledge into practice.

“I would recommend the College as everyone was very helpful, all the staff are very easy to get along with and they help with any issues you have. I would advise anyone to apply to FVC as it is the best thing I have done.

“There wasn’t just one best bit for me – there’s loads! I have made friends for life, and also realised that the College has set me up for life with skills that are irreplaceable!”
