A HND Hospitality Management student from Forth Valley College helped to promote Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight (1-16 September) by attending a special event at Edinburgh Castle recently.

Robyn Wilson (16) from Bannockburn was invited to the reception held by Fergus Ewing, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy to celebrate Scottish Food and Drink, on the evening of Wednesday 5 September.

On Forth Valley College, Robyn said: “I think the college has an amazing Hospitality Department and the Gallery Training Restaurant at the Stirling Campus is such an amazing opportunity and a great experience. The lecturers are so supportive and it just makes the experience even better.

“After I have completed my two year HND course, I hope to just travel and see where it takes me. I definitely plan on moving abroad and working in hospitality either in restaurants or hotels.

“I would absolutely recommend Forth Valley College because they were so helpful when I was looking to apply for my NC Hospitality as I was only 15 at the time and under the school leaving age. But they advised me much more than most other colleges I spoke to. If anyone is looking for a good place to study hospitality, I would recommend Forth Valley College every time. 

On the Scottish Food and Drink event at Edinburgh Castle, Robyn, said: “I really enjoyed the evening at the castle. I met a variety of different people in the food and drink industry, from small business owners to farmers and Scottish salmon suppliers, community workers providing food for everyone in their communities and even other young ambassadors from all different backgrounds. It was an amazing chance to meet other young people passionate about the food and drink industry.

“I was so shocked when I was asked to be involved because I have only been at the college less than a year, so it was a bit of a surprise. But I’m so glad I was asked because it’s been an amazing experience meeting lots of passionate people from different parts of the industry. I’m so proud to have represented the FVC Hospitality department and promoting Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight!”
