Seventeen-year-old Paulina Dylenska from Alloa is continuing a generational family tradition by enrolling at Forth Valley College.

In the first year of an HND Business, Paulina is absorbing the practical skills and theoretical knowledge being taught to prepare her for a career in a business related role.

Paulina said: “I choose to study at Forth Valley because it is a place of education that my whole family has attended, and it is full of great opportunities.

“It has some great facilities; I really love attending the gym after class because there is an instructor to help you out if you are having difficulty with any of the equipment. It really helps me relax because I am able to work out any stress during the day and the instructor helps you find a routine that suits you.

“The library is also a great place to study and has a lot of resources to help with my studies, it is also open at times to suit me which, is very helpful if you want to put in some extra hours after classes are finished.”

The Business HND develops entrepreneurial, organisational and personal skills including leadership, motivation and team working. Subjects studied cover the full spectrum of business from marketing and accounting, to business law and customer care, culminating in producing a real life business plan.

Paulina believes she has really grown as a person during her first year at the college

“I have not only developed my knowledge of the subject that I am studying, but I believe I have improved skills that will help me find a job, such as confidence and communication skills. The lecturers really focus on building you up and helping you  to believe in yourself,’ she said.

“When I have been struggling in the college with work there was always someone there to help whether it was learning support or a club that helped students with any work they are struggling with. Although I’m not sure what career I will end up with, but everyone here at the college helps you progress in the right direction.

“Put simply the college is a place where you are encouraged to study the way that works best for you and they are so supportive and flexible.”

She added: “If I was to sum up my experience of Forth Valley College so far it would be challenging, rewarding, and above all exciting.”
