A process operator from Kirkcaldy hopes Modern Apprenticeship (MA) Week 2017 (6-10 March) will inspire more young people to find out about the innovative programme.
Michael Dodds (20), from Kirkcaldy – who has recently completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Chemical Engineering with Exxon Mobile and Forth Valley College, said:
“I was studying for an HNC in Mechanical Engineering at another college when I heard about the apprenticeship position with Exxon Mobile.
“It seemed like the perfect opportunity as I would be getting paid to do what I was already doing. I’ve now achieved my Modern Apprenticeship and by June, I will also have completed an HNC in Chemical Engineering. As a result, I’m now really happy to have secured a permanent job with Exxon Mobile as a Process Operator.
“The best thing about a Modern Apprenticeship is the hands-on work and the ability to put theory into practice in the field. Similarly it’s also useful to talk about what you’ve been doing in the workplace at college – it reinforces your learning. I think the amount of support you receive as an apprentice is also really beneficial and a definite bonus.”
